About this Parish

The Parish of Donagh encompasses the north-Monaghan villages of Glaslough and Emyvale and stretches from the Armagh border to the edge of Monaghan town and from there westward to the townland of Golan, where it intersects with Tydavnet and Errigal Truagh parishes. The name Donagh (from Domhnach) indicates that this is a faith community whose roots are closely associated with St Patrick.

The medieval church of the parish was located in the townland of Donagh, not far from St Mary's Church at Glennan. By 1650, most of the parish belonged to two large landowners, the Leslies and the Anketells.

Today, the parish has two churches, St Mary's, at Glennan on the outskirts of Glaslough and St Patrick's Corracrin on the N2 route, just south of Emyvale. There are over 800 Catholic families in the parish and the Catholic population is approximately 2,600.
