HOLY WEEK LITURGIES ONLINE 2020 – DIOCESE OF CLOGHER

The following are the details of online celebrations of Holy Week from those churches across the Diocese of Clogher in which there is livestreaming, whether by webcam or Facebook Live, and from churches which have a local parish radio facility.

The liturgies listed are those for Palm Sunday, the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion on Good Friday (and Stations of the Cross where those are also prayed), the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday evening and the Mass of the Lord’s Resurrection on Easter Sunday.

God is with us:

This Holy Week will be like no other. The Coronavirus pandemic forces us to find new ways of celebrating our redemption through the life, death and resurrection of Christ. In these days, as we celebrate the Mystery of our Salvation in Jesus Christ, our participating in the liturgical acts is very much restricted. Nonetheless, as a Church, our faith in Christ enables us to look forward with hope, and it is that same hope which keeps our faith alive. As we listen to the Word of God over these days, may we come to realise the relationship between glory and suffering. May our participation this Holy Week allow us to proclaim that God is with us, and that we are set free through the power of the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Palm Sunday 5 April

1100-1150       Mass on Palm Sunday.  Celebrant: Rev Professor Michael Mullaney, President of Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth, celebrates Mass in the Kairos chapel studio, Maynooth, Co Kildare. (RTÉ One TV / RTÉ Radio 1 Extra / LW252 / Digital Radio platforms.)

Holy Thursday 9 April

1640-1735       Mass of the Lord’s Supper.  Celebrant: Father Joe Campbell CC, Mullingar, Diocese of Meath, from the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar. (RTÉ One TV and RTÉ Radio 1 Extra / LW252 / Digital Radio platforms. The Mass will air on radio at the later time of 19.00.)

Good Friday 10 April

1500-1600       Solemn Liturgy for Good Friday.  Live from the Cathedral of Christ the King, led by Father Derek Darby commemorating the Passion and death of Christ, observing full health and social distancing protocols. (RTÉ One TV & RTÉ Radio 1Extra/LW252)

Holy Saturday 11 April

2200-2300       Easter Vigil Mass.  Bishop Tom Deenihan of Meath celebrates the Resurrection of Christ, with a vigil Mass in the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar.  Beginning with the lighting of the Paschal candle, the liturgy, which signifies the triumph of light over darkness and of life over death (RTÉ Two & RTÉ Radio 1 Extra/LW252).

Easter Sunday 12 April

1000-1100       Easter Sunday Mass. A Eurovision Mass, from the Dominican Convent of Saint Jacques (Saint James the Great) in Paris.  Translation and commentary by Fr Thomas McCarthy OP (RTÉ One & RTÉ Radio 1 Extra).

1100-1120       Urbi et Orbi: Pope Francis’ Easter Message.  Pope Francis will deliver his

 Easter blessing To the city and the world with prayer and encouragement by

video link from within the Vatican.  Translation and commentary by Fr

Thomas McCarthy OP (RTÉ One).

OTHER RELIGIOUS PROGRAMME PROVISIONS

Shannonside-Northern Sound Radio will broadcast Mass on Sundays at 10am from St Mel’s Cathedral in Longford.

Radio Maria are broadcasting 24hours a day, with daily Mass at 10am. Radio Maria is now available on Saorview channel 210 as well as online https://www.radiomaria.ie/. It’s also accessible via on the Radio Maria Ireland mobile app and on the Radio Maria-Ireland Facebook page.

Vatican Television

During these days, the liturgies led by Pope Francis will be televised from the Vatican.  The broadcast is simultaneously translated into the English language.  For access please link to https://www.vaticannews.va/en.html .
