BISHOP DUFFY APPOINTS VICARS-GENERAL AND NEW CANONS

The Bishop of Clogher, Most Reverend Larry Duffy, has announced that he has appointed the following priests of the diocese to be his Vicars-General:

Monsignor Joseph McGuinness PP, Carrickmacross and Adm Magheracloone, and,

Monsignor Peter O’Reilly PP, Enniskillen

In addition, Bishop Duffy has appointed the following priests to be Canons of the Cathedral Chapter of the diocese:

Very Rev Patrick McEntee PP, Dromore

Very Rev Michael Daly PP, Donaghmoyne

Very Rev Patrick McGinn, Adm, Monaghan & Rackwallace (Cathedral Parish)

Very Rev Jimmy McPhillips, PP Lisnaskea-Maguiresbridge and Adm of Newtownbutler

Very Rev Noel McGahan PP Clogher and PP Eskra

Bishop Duffy has also confirmed the following appointments:

Monsignor Joseph McGuinness, Adm Tyholland, to be PP of Carrickmacross and Adm of Magheracloone. (Effective 11 February 2019)

Fr Patrick McGinn, Adm Monaghan & Rackwallace (Cathedral Parish) to also be Adm of Tyholland. (Effective 11 February 2019)

Notes for Editors:

  1. Bishop Larry Duffy is the Bishop of Clogher. He was ordained bishop on 10 February 2019.
  2. The Diocese of Clogher encompasses all of Co Monaghan, most of Fermanagh and portions of Tyrone, Donegal, Louth and Cavan.  It has a Catholic population of 88,000, across 37 parishes, which are served by 57 priests and 2 deacons. There are 85 churches in the diocese.  The patron saint of the diocese is St Macartan.
  3. The Cathedral Chapter is a college of priests to which is entrusted various responsibilities in the administration of the diocese including, in the case of the Diocese of Clogher, the functions of the College of Consultors. The Chapter is governed by the Code of Canon Law (no’s 502-510) and by its own statutes, approved by the Holy See. The Cathedral Chapter for the Diocese of Clogher dates from 1789 when it was re-established by Bishop Hugh O’Reilly (bishop, 1778-1801).
