DEATH OF FR EDMUND MAGUIRE PE, DONAGHMOYNE.

The death has occurred of Fr Edmund Maguire P.E., retired Parish Priest of Donaghmoyne and formerly PP of Aughnamullen East. Fr Maguire died at Cavan General Hospital yesterday, Sunday 12 March 2017.

A native of Clones, Co Monaghan, he was ordained to the priesthood at St Patrick’s College, Carlow on 9 June 1962 by the then Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, Dr Thomas Keogh. Apart from a short period in England, Fr Maguire spent all his priestly ministry in the service of people in the County Monaghan part of the Diocese of Clogher.

Following his ordination, Fr Maguire served in Manchester (Diocese of Salford) for two years before being appointed to Ballybay (Tullycorbet parish) in December 1964. He remained in Ballybay until his appointment as CC in Threemilehouse (Kilmore & Drumsnatt parish) in 1973. In 1979 he returned to Ballybay where he ministered again until his appointment as CC in the parish of Clontibret in August 1984. He was appointed Parish Priest of Aughnamullen East in January 1989, and served the people there until September 2002 when he was appointed as Parish Priest of Donaghmoyne. He retired in September 2007 to his native Clones.

Funeral Arrangements:

Reposing at the family home, Newtownbutler Road, Clones, today Monday until five o’clock with removal to St. Lastra’s Church, Donaghmoyne, to arrive at seven o’clock (Via Ballybay and Lough Egish).

Funeral Mass tomorrow Tuesday in St Lastra’s Donaghmoyne at twelve noon followed by burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Clones.
