The St. Macartan’s Cathedral restoration project has been ongoing over recent years. In the most recent phase, the substantial work on the tower and spire was completed. The recent lowering of the scaffolding has unveiled the remedial works to date. This was phase 3 of the restoration work.
Phases 1 and 2 which repaired the roof and restored the north transept have already been completed.
To ensure successful completion of all seven stages, we will need to call on the support and commitment of a wide audience, including parishioners, local businesses and friends both at home and abroad.
As a first step, we undertook a feasibility study which helped gather opinions to shape a fundraising plan. Part of this process involved the rolling out of an at-mass survey. This was conducted in the Monaghan & Rackwallace Parish (Cathedral Parish) alongside the neighbouring parishes of Tyholland, Donagh, Clontibret, Kilmore & Drumsnatt and Roslea. Parishioners were asked to complete a short survey at all Masses on the weekend of Saturday 31st August and Sunday 1st September 2024.
A summary document of the survey was produced and made available to the public. Please see below should you wish to read the findings.
